Fans of the franchise flocked to Instagram when they received the disappointing news from a page dedicated to Marty Deeks star Eric Christian Olsen. Despite years of tradition for the CBS drama, NCIS, and its two spin-offs NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: Hawaii, won’t be celebrating Christmas with a special seasonal episode this year.

Season 13 of NCIS: LA will go on its winter hiatus without offering its usual dose of festive cheer.
Despite last year’s production problems during the pandemic, season 12 kept the tradition going with the holiday-themed episode, If the Fates Allow.
Last year’s somewhat truncated instalment of the mainline series also missed out on the Christmas celebrations.
Fans were hoping the series could keep their spirits up this winter by bringing the festivities back to NCIS, especially after the sad departure of Special Agent Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon).

Unfortunately, this won’t be the case for all three continuing NCIS series.
The news arrived via TVLine, who confirmed the disappointing update in response to a reader’s question.
NCIS fan Maria asked: “Are either of the NCIS shows going to air Christmas episodes this year?”
To which they replied: “I see what you did there with your subtle NCIS: Hawaii erasure.”

“But all I have for you is coal — neither NCIS nor NCIS: LA will serve up holiday outings this season.”
The story was later updated to confirm the new spin-off NCIS: Hawaii won’t be getting a Christmas special either.
This will especially come as a blow for fans who were hoping the divisive new offshoot would be embracing the series’ traditions.
Sadly, new Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and her team won’t be celebrating the holidays for the time being.

Many NCIS viewers saw the news thanks to an Instagram account dedicated to Eric Christian Olsen, the actor best known as NCIS: LA agent Marty Deeks.
Several fans took to the comments to voice their disappointment with the latest update.
An IG user named ncisla.is.my.favorite.show exclaimed: “That’s so sad!!
“They always have a Christmas episode! Even last year with the pandemic!”
And kellydrummonds said: “Awww! That sucks!! Love their holiday episodes!!”

Fans also latched onto the news on Twitter, with some expressing their frustration at the flagship series’ lack of themed episodes in recent years.
Chris Martz tweeted: “It kinda ticks me off that they haven’t done one single holiday-themed episode this year.
“Last Christmas-themed episode was in S17. Last Halloween episode was in S16, and last Thanksgiving was S15. These tend to be some of the best episodes.”
Hopefully, the tradition can continue again soon, though whether NCIS actually continues next year after the departures of some key stars remains to be seen.
NCIS: Los Angeles season 13 continues Sundays on CBS. NCIS and NCIS: Hawaii continue Mondays.
